I know what you mean about the laptop and the couch. It the was the source of many fights between me and my ex girlfriend. When you do that you're not present. I was reading Felix Dennis' book "How to Get Rich" and he makes it really difficult for people to get in touch with him and the guy is worth a fortune. Good stuff.
